How it works

This flowchart illustrates the extent of health sector in Official Development Assistance (ODA) in OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC) member countries since 2011. By switching tabs, one can toggle between the flowchart of the health sector in the regions and countries that receive the ODA. If the cursor is hovered over each item or the bar chart breakdown, only the flow corresponding to the contribution in the relevant area is displayed.

Methodology for creating the graph

The graph is based on databases from the Creditor Reporting System(CRS) provided by OECD DAC. The CRS Aid Activity database provides a set of accessible data that is useful in the analysis of aid flows, and their purpose in a manner comparable to all DAC members.

1. The data were downloaded information from CRS.
2. The data regarding the health sector were extracted and merged.
3. The extracted data were analyzed based on contributing countries, transit agencies (in the case of aid through multilateral aid), recipients (regions or countries), and each health field.
4. The graph was developed using “Tableau,” a data visualization tool.

※Health sectors were defined as sector codes 12000 number (health), 13000 number (population policy and reproductive health), and 14000 number (water and sanitation). Agriculture (31100 number), food security (52010), and microcredit system (24040) were included as health-related sectors.
※ Code classification of the donors, transit agencies, recipient (country/region), and the field of contribution are based on the CRS code table.
