The letter “Global extension of Japanese medical products related to COVID-19: A survey of WHO Emergency Use Listing” by Dr. Wakabayashi et al. has been published in GHM Open.

The study focused on the World Health Organization’s Emergency Use Listing (EUL) for COVID-19. EUL is a procedure for the emergency use of vaccines and therapeutic and in vitro diagnostic products based on clinical data available at the time under the Public Health Emergencies of International Concern. As of January 2022, 28 in-vitro diagnostic products from China and three vaccines from India were on EUL. However, the only vaccine manufactured in Japan was listed on EUL. For Japanese medical products to be used globally in emergencies, this study discussed the importance of taking preparation and initiative for the global extension of medical products.
